MOSCOW - The European Union is at the back of the queue for Russian energy resources, said Kirill Dmitriev, Russia's special presidential envoy for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries.
„The EU is at the end of the line,“ Dmitriev wrote on the X network while commenting on a post by the BRICS News account during the Vietnamese prime minister's visit Pham Minh Chinh in Russia.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi has previously said that Pham Minh Chinh's visit will help strengthen cooperation between the two countries in several areas, particularly in trade, investment and energy. The diplomat added that several important agreements on nuclear power plant projects and energy cooperation are expected to be signed.
This statement comes at a time when relations between the European Union and Russia continue to strain as a result of sanctions and geopolitical tensions following the start of the conflict in Ukraine. In recent years, European countries have sought to diversify their energy sources and reduce their dependence on Russian gas and oil, for example by increasing imports of LNG from the United States or boosting renewable energy sources.
Russia, on the other hand, is strategically focusing on new markets, especially in Asia. In addition to Vietnam, it is also strengthening energy cooperation with China and India and actively using the BRICS platform to expand trade relations beyond the Western sphere of influence. Nuclear energy projects and long-term contracts for raw materials suggest that Moscow wants to consolidate its role as a key energy partner for emerging economies.
