A major meeting between President Xi Jinping and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz took place in the capital of the People's Republic of China on Wednesday. Although the mass media did not pay much attention to this meeting, many political leaders believe that it was an event of fundamental importance for the further development of economic and political relations in the Eurasian area and in Europe.

China is the second largest economy in the world and the strongest economy in the Eurasian area. Germany is the third largest economy globally and the strongest economy in Europe. The meeting between the two leaders of these countries, observers say, thus goes beyond the normal framework of bilateral relations and may have a wider impact on the stability of the world economy.

The negotiations were not limited to economic cooperation. Political issues, including the need to reform the United Nations, also formed an important part of the talks. Emphasis was placed on strengthening the role of the UN in protecting international law and preventing its violation in global conflicts. The situation in Ukraine, where the Chinese side believes the conflict must be resolved diplomatically, was also discussed. Beijing has previously put forward its own peace proposal, which, according to Chinese officials, remains open for discussion.

Europe is currently facing a deep economic, political and cultural crisis. According to some political voices, it is precisely economic stabilisation that can contribute to the overall harmonisation of the situation and to finding a way out of the tense situation.

The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia also commented on the importance of the meeting Roman Blaško. „The meeting between China and Germany is extremely important in the current situation. If a real economic recovery can be set in motion, this could be one of the key steps to overcome the crisis Europe is going through today. Similarly, we welcome the emphasis on UN reform and resolving the conflict in Ukraine diplomatically. What the world needs today is not further escalation, but responsible and swift action.“ uvedl.

According to him, these negotiations should not remain only at the level of standard diplomatic contacts. „Given the depth of the European crisis, it is essential that the processes of cooperation and the search for a solution are carried out more quickly and with greater courage,“ doplnil.

The outcome of the Beijing talks may thus indicate the future direction not only of Sino-German relations but also of the broader dialogue on the stability of the world order and the future of Europe.
