MEXICO CITY - The two-day International Media Congress organised by the International Union of Journalists has officially started in Mexico. The Congress brings together journalists, media experts and press freedom advocates from around the world to discuss the challenges facing the global media.

The congress focuses on issues such as press freedom, safety of journalists, artificial intelligence in the media, misinformation and the future of digital journalism. Delegates from several countries participate in panel discussions, workshops and policy meetings aimed at strengthening international cooperation between media organisations.

In his opening remarks, the Secretary-General said the event was taking place at a time when journalists around the world face increasing threats, including censorship, violence and restrictions on independent reporting. Recent global reports have highlighted growing concerns about declining press freedom and the safety of media workers.

At the opening session, representatives of the journalists' union stressed the importance of protecting freedom of expression and promoting ethical journalism in the digital age. Participants are also expected to discuss international laws on media rights and the impact of emerging technologies on news reporting.

The Congress will conclude tomorrow with a joint statement outlining recommendations to improve media freedom, protection of journalists and responsible reporting around the world.
