Chinese Defence Minister Dong Jun attended a meeting of defence ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on Tuesday. In his address, he stressed the importance of joint efforts for stability and security in today's uncertain world.

According to Dong, China's initiatives - in development, security, civilisation and global governance - bring important stability and predictability to the current international environment.

In his view, the SOS should continue to serve as an example of functional multilateralism. The key is to support international order, promote equality and justice, and actively participate in addressing security challenges. In doing so, he emphasized addressing the causes of conflict through joint development, which can contribute to long-term peace and prosperity in the region.

The Minister also called on the Member States to deepen defence and security cooperation. He said that stronger unity, more intensive communication and concrete results should be the basis for further development of the organisation.
