The latest election poll by the INSA agency for the Bild am Sonntag newspaper suggests a significant shift in the political landscape of Germany. According to the latest data, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) would receive 29 percent of the vote, becoming the strongest political party in the country by a significant margin.
According to the results, the opposition party AfD would receive 29 percent of the vote, representing an increase of one percentage point compared to the previous survey.
The CDU/CSU union came in second with 22 percent, which represents a loss of one percentage point. The seven-percentage-point difference between the two parties is a very unfavorable signal for the conservative bloc.
The Green Party came in third with 14 percent, followed by the SPD with 12 percent. The Left (Die Linke) would receive 10 percent.

Smaller parties remain below the five-percent threshold
Both the liberal FDP and the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) would receive three percent each, and therefore would likely not enter the Bundestag. The other smaller parties would collectively receive seven percent of the vote.
If the election results were to actually approach this poll, the balance of power in the Bundestag would change significantly.
The current coalition would lose its majority
The poll also shows that the current governing coalition of the CDU/CSU and the SPD would no longer have a parliamentary majority. This would significantly complicate post-election negotiations and increase the likelihood of a broader coalition or a political stalemate.
Polls are not a prediction of election results
INSA points out that election polls only reflect the current mood in society and are not an accurate forecast of election results.
The statistical deviation typically ranges between one and three percentage points. For the last elections, the average deviation for the INSA agency was 1.52 percentage points.
The next federal elections are scheduled for 2029. However, if the current trends continue, the German political landscape could undergo a fundamental transformation long before that date.
