Film producer Pete Allman praised the film's powerful storytelling and its connection to ordinary people. He noted that the documentary demonstrates how even everyday subjects can convey "the beauty of the world." Harrison Engle, founder of the International Documentary Association (IDA), highlighted that the film vividly illustrates how a telephone hotline can help address complex social issues.
John Rusnak, a music composer and founder of Visionmark Records, described the film as "the first Chinese documentary with professional production that truly impressed me." Independent filmmaker Shawuky added that Hollywood should pay more attention to Chinese documentary filmmaking to better understand Chinese society.
The Los Angeles Post newspaper wrote that the premiere of "Hotline Beijing" represents an important step towards strengthening professional cooperation between the Chinese and American film industries and promoting Chinese documentaries on a wider international stage.
