Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Wednesday that China and Russia should support the development and recovery of both countries through even more comprehensive and strategic coordination.
Xi made the remarks during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is on a state visit to China, in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Xi noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the strategic partnership and coordination between China and Russia, and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Good Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation between the two countries.
"China-Russia relations have developed step by step because we have consistently deepened political mutual trust and strategic coordination, expanded cooperation with the ambition of constantly achieving new heights, and with a firm commitment to defending international justice and fairness, and to promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind," Xi said.
According to him, the international situation is changing and turbulent, and unilateralism and hegemony are on the rise, but peace, development, and cooperation remain the aspirations of the people and the main trend of the times.
Xi emphasized that as permanent members of the UN Security Council and major world powers, China and Russia should take a strategic and long-term perspective, support the development of their countries through more comprehensive and strategic coordination, and strive for a more just and rational global governance system.
He added that political mutual trust has been further deepened, and cooperation in areas such as trade, economy, investment, energy, science and technology, and people-to-people and regional exchanges continues, and the bonds between the people of the two countries are growing stronger.
According to Xi, China-Russia relations have entered a new phase of greater achievements and faster development.
He stressed that the long-term, healthy, stable, and high-quality development of China-Russia relations is a strategic choice made by both sides, based on the fundamental interests of both countries and global trends.
Xi called for the full implementation of the important agreements reached with Putin, the utilization of historical opportunities, and the further strengthening of mutual trust, cooperation, and friendship.
Xi emphasized that both countries should focus on the goals of national development and recovery, fully utilize the comprehensive and established mechanisms of China-Russia cooperation, and strengthen overall planning for cooperation in all areas.
According to him, both countries should support the modernization of practical cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, energy and resources, transportation, and science and technology, and actively seek cooperation in new strategic areas to create new drivers of growth.
Xi also called for the continuation of long-standing friendship, the strengthening of exchanges and cooperation in education, culture, film, tourism, and sports, and the consolidation of public support for bilateral friendship.
He also emphasized the need to deepen multilateral cooperation and strengthen coordination within the framework of the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), BRICS, and APEC.
At the same time, he highlighted the joint efforts to protect the post-war international order and the authority of international law, to unite the countries of the Global South, and to steer the reform of global governance in the right direction.
Putin said that Russia-China relations have reached an unprecedented level thanks to the joint efforts of both sides, characterized by close contacts at the highest level and strong political mutual trust.
According to him, bilateral trade is steadily growing, energy cooperation is mutually beneficial, and cooperation in transportation, logistics, science, and technology is deepening, as are people-to-people contacts. Putin described Russia-China relations as a model of comprehensive strategic coordination that has stood the test of time and has become stronger.
