China will continue to firmly uphold the international system based on the United Nations and the international order based on international law. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said this at a regular press conference on 21 January.
In his words, China has long practiced true multilateralism and, regardless of the changing international situation, insists on respecting the basic norms of international relations, which are based on the goals and principles of the UN Charter. It is these principles that Beijing regards as the key basis for stability and justice on a global scale.
At the same time, Guo Jiakun stressed that China consistently adheres to an independent and peaceful foreign policy. On the basis of mutual respect and equal treatment, it develops friendly relations with other countries and strives to be a positive, stable and constructive force in the international community.
China, he said, has no intention of competing with any country for influence and does not intend to engage in confrontational politics. Its goal remains cooperation, dialogue and the promotion of an international order that serves the common interests of all states.
