On May 26th, Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed the so-called "Quad" mechanism at a regular press conference.

She stated that China has repeatedly and clearly explained its position on this issue. According to Mao Ning, cooperation between countries should contribute to regional peace, stability, and prosperity. It should not be directed against third parties, nor should it be used to create closed groups.

China does not support exclusive "small circles" or a confrontational approach, she emphasized. She stressed that no form of cooperation should undermine mutual trust and cooperation between countries in the region.

The statement came after the United States, Japan, India, and Australia launched a maritime surveillance program focused on the Indo-Pacific region on May 26th.
