Overview of the latest economic events in the Czech Republic
After five weeks of cheapening, fuel prices in the Czech Republic have increased again. According to the company CCS the price of Natural 95 petrol rose to an average of CZK 33.77 per litre and the price of diesel to CZK 32.39. Compared to last year, however, petrol and diesel are approximately CZK 2.37 and CZK 2.03 per litre cheaper, respectively. Analysts expect prices to stabilise in the coming days. The real estate market reports a significant growth in rents - older apartments improved by seven percent quarter-on-quarter in the second quarter, year-on-year rent growth is between three and twelve percent in all regions, the average rental price is about CZK 270 per sqm.
Foreign investment
The most significant foreign acquisition is the sale of a Czech pharmaceutical company Zentiva US private equity firm GTCR, confirmed by Advent International. The value of the transaction is around €4.1 billion (i.e. approximately 100 billion crowns), including debts, although Advent's press release did not explicitly state the amount. Advent acquired Zentiva from the French company Sanofi in 2018 for approximately 1,9 miliardy eur.
Another interesting acquisition is planned or in the process of completion Czechoslovak Group (CSG). CSG has reportedly agreed to take over the company's U.S. ammunition division Vista Outdoor, tzv. Kinetic Group, in a transaction worth roughly 1.9 to 2 billion dollars. This acquisition is intended to strengthen the export potential and international position of the Czech armaments company.
The international automotive industry is investing in the Czech Republic beyond acquisitions. An example is the company Toyotawhich announced an investment of 680 milionů eur into new production lines for electric vehicles and the construction of a battery assembly plant at the Cologne plant. This investment has state incentives of approximately 64 milionů eur.
Significant events outside the Czech Republic with global impact
Looking beyond the Czech Republic, the world markets are following the transformation steps in the automotive and energy industries. Ford for example, is ending production of the Focus in Saarlouis, Germany, and preparing a new European model to be built in Valencia, Spain, from 2027. This shift in production is part of a broader strategy by car companies to optimise logistics, reduce costs and move to more efficient plants.
Another aspect of the global impact is the movement of capital into cleantech and electromobility. European and US companies are increasing their investment in the country in component manufacturing, e-mobility and battery production, which translates into projects such as Toyota Kolín.
The Prague Stock Exchange recorded a strengthening of the PX index, which rose by 0.14 % to 2293.85 points. The growth was driven by banking titles - Komerční banka a Moneta Money Bank - and company shares Doosan Škoda Power, which have reached a new high. In contrast, shares of the energy company ČEZ weakened, well below CZK 1,300 per share.
The Czech economy on 12 September 2025 shows strong signs of activity in foreign acquisitions, investment in the automotive and pharmaceutical industries, rising rents and volatile fuel markets. These events will affect domestic consumers, industry and the financial sector.
