Overview of the latest economic events in the Czech Republic
The Prague Stock Exchange continues to improve its historical high at the beginning of the week. The PX index rose 0.25 percent to 2,336.61 points, breaking Friday's record. Most of the main titles, especially the banking sector, did well. The development points to continued investor confidence in the domestic market, with a stable macroeconomic environment and capital inflows from global markets playing a key role.
Dnes také Czech Statistical Office (CSO) will publish revised data on the Czech economy in Q2. According to the latest figures from the end of August, gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 2.6 % year-on-year, while it rose by 0.5 % compared to the first quarter. Analysts do not expect further revisions, and confirmation of these figures would underline the steady growth of the domestic economy in 2025.
Foreign investment
The biggest deal announced Electronic Arts (EA)which will be purchased by a consortium formed by the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund PIF, a private-equity group Silver Lake and investment companies Affinity Partners (Jared Kushner's firm). The value of the transaction is approximately USD 55 billion, with shareholders being offered USD 210 per share. The financing comprises approximately USD 36 billion of equity and USD 20 billion of credit cover to be provided by JPMorgan. This is one of the largest acquisitions in the history of the gaming industry and significantly affects market liquidity and the willingness of banks to participate in similar mega-acquisitions.
Rheinmetall announced a €444 million contract to supply artillery ammunition to an Eastern European customer. Around €170 million has already been booked as a pre-order, with deliveries to take place between 2026 and 2027. The deal strengthens the company's position in the region and will also impact supply chains in the defence sector.
In the pharmaceutical industry, the Danish Genmab an agreement to take over a Dutch company Merus for $8 billion ($97 per share). At the same time, the Swiss Novartis has announced an offer to buy American Tourmaline Bio at $48 a share. These September 29 acquisitions confirm the trend of consolidation in biotechnology and bring new investment opportunities for investors.
Other transactions include the completion of the takeover of a Japanese AI firm Aidemy skupinou Accenture and the announced acquisition of the American company StoneCastle Cash Management firmou Fiserv. The first step strengthens the capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence, the second expands the offer in the field of liquidity management and fintech.

The record-breaking takeover of Electronic Arts and acquisitions in the pharmaceutical sector are changing the balance of power in global markets and influencing investors' willingness to take risks. For the Czech economy, this means potential capital inflows, increased interest in local stocks and opportunities for companies involved in subcontracting chains. At the same time, there is a risk of increased competition for skilled labour and upward pressure on company valuations.
