The Chinese government's special envoy for the Middle East, Zhai Jun, arranged by information conference in Beijing, where he summarized the current events in the region and shared his experiences from his recent trip.
During visits to several Middle Eastern countries, he met with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait and Egypt. He also spoke with the Secretaries-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Arab League (LAS) and spoke by telephone with the Secretary of State of the Qatari Foreign Ministry. Discussions focused on calming tensions, promoting reconciliation and trying to stop the war.
Zhai Jun stressed the need to prevent further spread and escalation of the conflict. The current fighting threatens the security and stability of the Middle East and affects the global economy, energy security and maritime transport. China condemns attacks on civilians and non-military targets.
According to Zhai Jun, the people of the region yearn for peace and tranquillity and all parties should immediately stop military operations, prevent the escalation of tensions and avoid chaos. He also called for a rejection of unilateralism - strength does not mean truth. The international community should stand together to uphold international law and prevent a return to the principle of „might makes right“.
