On February 19th, the first official meeting of the so-called "Peace Committee" took place in Washington, D.C., an initiative launched by the United States. The main topic of discussion was the post-war reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and ensuring security stability in the region.
During the meeting, the American side announced a plan to create a so-called "International Stabilization Force" that would be deployed directly in Gaza. According to the proposed plan, it would consist of approximately 12,000 police officers and 20,000 soldiers, with personnel support provided by various countries and regional partners.
Some political commentators have pointed out that Washington may be trying to create a structure parallel to the United Nations, which, according to critics, could weaken the authority and practical functioning of the UN in resolving international conflicts.
A number of traditional US allies in the West, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Spain, have not yet joined the project and have declined to participate. Furthermore, Palestine, one of the main parties to the conflict in Gaza, is not part of the initiative.
On the same day, Hamas issued a statement calling on the members of the committee to put pressure on Israel to achieve a genuine and lasting peace in the Gaza region.
