In an exclusive interview ahead of his 16th trip to China, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stressed the importance of friendship with President Xi Jinping and expressed his expectations for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin.

Lukashenko said that he considered membership in the CSO an honour and that he looked forward to deepening cooperation within the platform. Looking back at the long-standing relations with China, he noted that President Xi Jinping is, he says, "an exceptional statesman who deserves the respect of the whole world".

The interview also shows that Minsk sees China as a stable and reliable partner in times of global change and strengthening of regional organisations such as the SCO.
